It’s been a busy day in New York City today. On the heels of Adobe’s big announcement of the release of 14 updated Creative Cloud apps, mobile applications, and new hardware devices, Adobe also announced the release of a new Creative Cloud plan for photography, as well as some new apps and features for Photoshop and Lightroom.
If you’re a photographer, you may have heard about Adobe’s Photography Plan in the past. In it, you can subscribe to Photoshop and Lightroom for just $9.99 per month. Today, Adobe made this plan a permanent offering, and removed the requirement that you own a copy of CS3 or newer.
In addition, Adobe also released new versions of Photoshop, Lightroom, Lightroom Mobile for iPhone, as well as a new mobile app called Adobe Photoshop Mix, an app that provides access to some of Photoshop’s most powerful features while you’re on the go. All of these applications are now available as part of the Adobe Creative Cloud Photography plan.
Aside from the release of new mobile applications, the biggest announcement regarding Adobe’s Creative Cloud Photography plan is the announcement of new features in Photoshop CC. These new features include two new motion blur effects in the Blur Gallery, Focus Mask Selections, improvements to Content Aware feature, Improved Smart Guides, Typekit access and search tools, as well as an improved Mercury Graphics Engine for performance. Windows 8.1 users can also enjoy smoother brush strokes and expanded stylus support. Adobe has also created larger touch targets for users running Photoshop on devices like the Wacom Cintiq Companion or the Microsoft Surface.
Adobe Lightroom also saw some improvements, the biggest of which is the announcement of Lightroom Mobile for iPhone. Previously, only available for iPad users, you can now download Lightroom Mobile on your iPhone, edit, flag, star, set custom sort orders, and share photos from anywhere.
The newest and most interesting addition to the Creative Cloud Photography program is the release of Adobe Photoshop Mix, a new mobile app that will give you access to some of Photoshop’s most powerful features such as the ability to make selections, combine photos, apply effects, masks, as well as Content Aware Fill, Camera Shake Reduction, and Upright. The edits you make can then be easily transferred to the cloud, as a PSD, for use on your desktop. In Addition, Adobe Mix gives you access to all your photo libraries and can access photos from Lightroom Mobile, Facebook, the Creative Cloud, as well as your device’s Camera Roll.
The new Creative Cloud Photography plan will be available today, June 18th, 2014 for $9.99 per month and includes Photoshop CC, Lightroom desktop and mobile (for iPad and iPhone), as well as Photoshop Mix.
The full Creative Cloud plan will remain at $49.99 per month with CS3+ customers getting their first year at $29.00 per month based on an annual membership.
